Bournemouth & District Society of Model Engineers
The Society, which was established in 1924 has a membership of about 140 including about 40 wives and partners many of whom take an active part in running the society. Members have a wide range of model engineering interests including locomotives, traction engines, clock making, stationary steam engines, and many other facets of the hobby. A large number of the members have workshops with metal working tools and machines and have constructed their own models. The Society runs special events for charitable and other good causes throughout the year. Click on NOTICE BOARD for details of forthcoming events.
The principle asset of the Society is the Littledown Miniature Railway which is situated to the rear of the Littledown Centre off Castle Lane East, Bournemouth. Details for finding the site and parking facilities are available, click on LOCATION. The raised track is suitable for running 7 ¼, 5, and 3 ½ inch gauge locomotives. The Society has a meeting usually at Muscliff Community Centre on the third Wednesday of each month. This is always well attended and in addition to the necessary society business there is usually a presentation on a subject of interest to the membership. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served.
